THANKSGIVING GIVEAWAY - Your responses

Here are a few of the responses that I have received:

The smells and the family rushing around preparing the wonderful food we are so fortunate to have.

I love that my extended and extended-extended family gets together at someone's house somewhere in the US every year to enjoy each other. No other family I know has a group of 50-60 second, third and fourth cousins that not only know each other but carry on a tradition of getting together once a year. And each year we give thanks to having each other as family, loving each other, thanking that we have our health (kinda) and new babies every year, and that we are lucky enough to have so much food that we have pounds and pounds of leftovers each year. And each day after Thanksgiving we make over a hundred of sandwiches and my cousins take them back to NY and give them to homeless people and charities feeding the poor.

I love that Thanksgiving is a holiday that has not succumbed to commercialism. My family keeps a "thankful" jar throughout the month of November, and the kids write down one thing each day that they are Thankful. On thanksgiving, and throughout the stressful holiday season we will pull more sheets out of the jar and continue to recognize how blessed we are. Thanksgiving gives us a time to reflect on the things that we value in our life.

I think we should look at the word "Thanksgiving". To me it is backward. It should be
"Givingthanks". We should be giving thanks for everything in our lives. Everybody has something to be thankful for. Maybe it is your health, your wealth, your family, your career, your job, your church, your country, the food you eat. The list goes on and on.

That is what "Thanksgiving" means to me.

Thanksgiving to me represents who I am and where I came from. Being thankful for my
family, friends, pets and our health, I reflect on past Thanksgivings of my past and the
family and friends that we have lost. It's a bitter/sweet holiday. Also, I wont forget about
the people who have lost their lives to protectoour freedom. I truly am thankful and love
the fact that we have this day to share with the ones we love.

Thanksgiving is the one day each year when the entire family gathers around the table
Each one, in turn, shares what they are thankful for and then we all join hands, bow our
heads and pray a prayer of thanksgiving to God for all our blessings. It is also a time to
remember the many Thanksgivings of the past and to laugh about our memories. We have created traditions that will be carried out through the generations to come.
